"The Genius of Beauty" is unlike any other comedy you may have seen - at least not coming out of Singapore. It's not your regular heartwarming, sweet romantic comedy,it's not a vulgar sexually implicit flick, it's a fresh, refreshing, new take on on-screen humor. Visually, however, it is sexy — beautifully shot and with an excellent soundtrack to match, it's a tantalizing meal for the senses. The story revolves around a zany, over-the-top Eastern European character, simply known as "The Doc" (Bill Gentry) to some, Dr Slice and Dice to others, or as he likes to call himself, "The Genius of Beauty". Having come from a dysfunctional family, with his dreams of being an artist squashed by his over-bearing mother, the Doc decides to become a plastic surgeon. Whilst his intentions are for the best, his results are a serious mix of hits and misses. Having been approached to perform a, urm, "tool- enhancing" procedure on a very influential client, requesting to be fitted with anatomical parts from a horse, the Doc adamantly refuses. However, being the ladies' man that he is, he doesn't refuse his client's wife's advances. He loses his license to practice and heads to the Far East with his trusted Assistant, a Theodore (Rob Jenkin).

Having set up his base in Borneo, the Doc and Theodore slowly build up a steady list of clients, and his reputation has also started to spread all around the region. However, he is also being pursued by the authorities, a one Inspector Baggins (Daniel Jenkins), who has somehow made it a personal vendetta of his to ensure that the Doc does not practice, after he performed a botched operation on his sister. With that, the medical Duo decide to tak their craft to Mumbai, after receiving a letter from a w althy woman, Lakshmi Fokatchand (Supriya Shukla) trying to get her daughter, Tee Tee (Vishakha Singh) to win beauty pageants. With that, a mad cat-and-mouse game ensues, as the Doc embarks on beautifying the women in Mumbai, whilst escaping the persistent Inspector Baggins, and a new pursuer in Sasha (Sunila Karambelekar), another ambitious pageant mum, intent in making her own daughter, Devika (Monica Singh) win — and has no qualms of doing anything to make that happen. "The Genius of Beauty" is a story which typically may seem like it's emphasizing on the old adages that 'Beauty may be only skin deep", or that "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", but it's actually not. In fact, it's about looking at the lighter side of things, and not taking oneself too seriously. "The Genius of Beauty" is a fun, roller-coaster

IMAGIARTS IT ALL STARTED WITH A GIG AS AN EMCEE
Expat in Singapore finds inspiration to make a movie whilst helping friend William (Bill) Gentry is not the type of guy you'd meet everyday. This American expat who has proudly named Singapore as his base for over fifteen years now, not only plays the main lead of "The Genius of Beauty", he is also the scriptwriter, songwriter and executive producer as well. Bill recounts how he came up with the idea for the story, "l was the emcee of a friend's fortieth birthday party where there was a mock pageant as part of the entertainment. I came up with the idea of a separate impromptu skit where I could be a doctor backstage, performing surgeries on
the women before they competed on the "pageant". This idea came to me as I was jogging down Holland Road, and I felt that this would make a really great script." The rest is history.
"This is not my first script, Oh no. says Bill, "I've written six or seven scripts, but this is the only one that saw the light of day. I did have to pay off the executive producer to get it made into a movie though. As an actor, my career is not that long or lustrous, this is my first time on screen".
As President of Positronic Asia, a multinational company manufacturing and selling electronic connectors for the telecommunication and aircraft industries, Bill is a busy man. With over 200 staff in Singapore, 100 in India and offices in China, South of France and the United States, his schedule allows him to be in Singapore only half the time. A multimedia offshoot of his company, Imagical Arts, allows Bill to keep himself connected to his creative side, and when he is not working, he allows himself little interludes of "sanity", like "writing songs during lunch".
Running a business empire has come in really useful for Bill, when it came to "The Genius of Beauty". "l suppose my business skills came into play at this point. It was really interesting being an actor, as well as executive producer for the movie. I would have probably found it really boring only having one role on a movie set. In this way, I could literally get involved in the creative process from both sides of the camera, and open the movie out to more possibilities". Playing the lead role for the first time was another challenge Bill took in his stride. Taking acting lessons from renowned Singapore actor Lim Yu Beng, Bill spent almost six months 'fishing out the role". "l was practicing the character of the Doctor basically as much as I could, in front of mirrors, while I was driving, and I'd often video myself in front of a ride that you simply must take.

camera and analyse what I could have done better", says Bill, "Funnily enough, I had never envisioned myself as an actor, but I had so much fun playing a character that is so unlike what I really am. The Doc has been described a twisted dirty old man, a freaking weirdo...someone who is uncontrollably attracted to women. I don't think I'm like that at all, but if I am I try to hide it as much as I can. "A DIVERSE CAST, A DISTINCT CULTURE, A UNIVERSAL THEME Who's who in "The Genius of Beauty" "The Genius of Beauty" is a comedy that executive producer/screenwriter/lead actor Bill describes as having an "early Woody Ellen, Fellini — sort of feel". He matter of factly continues, "You either love it or hate it. And it may be more of a "guy movie" with humor that may not please all, but it's entertaining and not meant to be
insulting, although it may slap a few faces. But this movie is especially made for those who appreciate an alternative movie outside the box, something fresh and different." The situations presented in "The Genius of Beauty" are funny and the scenes are hilarious, and the whole absurd reality of the movie just lends itself to humor. But the cast in this movie is probably one of the best collaborative Indian/Singapore cast that has been put together in any Singapore production. Having worked on over 200 television commercials the world over the lure of the big screen beckoned for Director Aarin Mehta. 'The Genius of Beauty' is a crazy, zany, bizarre film which will surely get a reaction out, "he says, "the quirky, out-of-the-box script meant that it
had to be handled very differently from a regular film, and the mix of immensely talented Caucasian, oriental and Indian cast and crew made the project an interesting potboiler of  ultures and sensibilities. Surprisingly, even though a few of the actors, including Bill, were first-
timers in acting, but it sure didn't show". Aarin continues, "Each actor brought with themselves the intent and skill to give life to their on-screen personas. Many of them even outdid our expectations, and the least they did was give complete justice to their characters. I was really happy with all of them so much that with the final edit when we had to chop of portions of their role, it just felt unfair. But one's got to do one one's got to do!". THE DOC is a character like none other. Eastern European in origin and brought up by an overbearing mother who does not approve of his love of the arts, he decides to marry the best of both worlds and create IMAGI
ARTS art in his chosen career as a plastic surgeon. Seeing himself more as a sculptor, he takes on surgeries with a special commitment to making each person a masterpiece. While art takes on many forms, and beauty is always described as in the eyes of the beholder, the Doc's work oftentimes come out looking more avant garde than what perhaps a conventional plastic  urgeon may do. However, his heart is always in the right place. Having done a botched surgery on one of his influential clients in America (and sleeping with his irate client's wife afterwards), the Doc loses his license to practice and decides to start up his "illegal" practice in Borneo.
However, little does he know that the law knows no boundaries, and escape is almost futile as he is pursued by a pitbull of a detective, Inspector Baggins, who himself has a personal vendetta against the Doc, as he had performed a surgery on the detective's sister, with
not so appealing results. Says Bill, "Playing the Doc is really challenging in a lot of ways. I never really saw myself as an actor, but I suppose, the end results came out better than I expected. I suppose acting came easily to me as I am the sort that is willing to try anything, and I'm not afraid of being the butt of jokes. It was really liberating playing such a twisted character!"

THEODORE is the Doc's trusty assistant. Eternally grateful from being treated for a rather horrendous facial deformity by the Doc, Theodore has ever since faithfully followed the Doc around the world, as he escapes from his pursuers. As the Inspector catches up with the duo in Borneo, both the Doc and Theodore decide to move their operations to Mumbai, India. There, they set up shop again, catering to the well-heeled crowd of upper class Indian society,
especially pageant mums and their vicarious living through their daughters, fueling their perennial quest for their offspring to win beauty pageant after beauty pageant. Theodore falls in love with the Doc's main Indian patient, Tee Tee. The flmmakers turned to Rob Jenkins for the role. "Theodore's really fun to play because he is such a straight, normal character, compared to the other quirky characters in the film. He's genuine, honest, kind-hearted, but insecure and shy. That's just like I am, except for the insecurity and shyness," says Rob, "but Theodore undergoes a drastic change during the course IMAGI ARTS of the film, and ends up in a different place from where he started, as he regains his life and confidence. That's
probably more like the actual me". More from a theatrical background, this is Rob's first foray
into film, an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. "It was absolutely fun. Working with Bill was great, watching him trying to marry the roles of writer, producer and actor was really interesting, but we worked off the stress of the six week production with many whisky shots by the pool". TEE TEE (Twinkle Toes) FOKATCHAND is a beautiful Indian girl, who dutifully tries to fulfill her mother's dream of making her the top beauty pageant contestant in India. Betrothed to a man whom she does not love, Tee Tee is a typical submissive Indian woman, trying to
please her family, even to the extent of going through major plastic surgery so as to gain the coveted titles of beauty queen. Bollywood actress and model Vishakha Singh captured the diversity of the character, bringing an amazing emotional depth to the character.

PRODUCTION NOTES
"Tee Tee is a young, naive, rich girl, and completely under her mother's thumb. She starts out as a clueless, aimless girl in the film, but moves on to finding love and discovering her own self," says Vishakha, "the highlight of playing this very loveable and gullible character was
wearing all the prosthetics involved in her dramatic transformation. I have played a lot of roles, but this one was especially challenging." The challenge of bringing Tee Tee's sentimental and
likeable character on-screen through expressions, in spite of the vast amount of prosthetics on her nose, eyebrows and lips she had to wear, was embraced and overcame by Vishakha. "Somehow we pulled it off, and those hours of prosthetics work in make-up before the
shoot seemed to finally have paid off". INSPECTOR BAGGINS is the over-zealous detective
whose mission in life and in work, is to ensure that the Doc stops his practice. Armed with a sidekick and an uncannily keen sense of smell, the Inspector has followed the Doc from the sandy beaches of Sarawak to Singapore to Mumbai. His pursuit for the Doc goes much deeper than his sense of justice — his sister has apparently had surgery done by the Doc and the results were not as expected.
Daniel Jenkins was chosen to play the part of this obsessive compulsive character. Director Aarin Mehta felt that he was perfect for the part, "the intensity and the focus and the commitment was pretty impeccable accompanied by the varied expressions from unhappy
to a more vibrant self on accomplishing his sole motive for existence".
INSPECTOR CRONCKITTE is Inspector Baggins' partner and sidekick. Not exactly sharing his fellow inspector's zeal IMAGI ARTS for capturing the Doc, but nonetheless dutifully following
all protocol, he sets out on the pursuit of the "evil Dr Slice and Dice" in a hilarious cat and mouse chase. Singapore actor Kun Wai Kit iook on this goofball role with much relish. "Kun walked into the character like he was born for it, " says Aarin, "He also used his accent much to his own advantage, which makes the character extremely likeable and hilarious. He did put on a few kilos with the doughnuts though but brought out the contrast with Baggins beautifully".
MRS LAKSHMI FOKATCHAND is the over-achieving mother of Tee Tee's. Adamant about her daughter getting the highest accolades in beauty pageants around India, this atypical pageant mom goes all out to try and get her daughter to win the coveted titles, including subjecting
her to major surgery. A lack of attention from her highly-ambitious and very successful husband drives her to a not-so-secret crush on the Doc.

Says Aarin, " Mrs Fokatchand is someone that the
Western world would perceive as the archetypical Indian
rummy-playing wife of a rich businessman - overt in size
and expression, one who wears the pants in the house."
Supriya Shukla, a veteran in Indian films and cinema
for over two decades, was chosen for the role.

aplomb and absolute ease".

DEVIKA is the beauty pageant rival of Tee Tee's. A
beautiful girl in her own right, she too has an over-bearing
mother with a dogged ambition of making her daughter
the reigning beauty queen in India.
Monica Singh plays Devika. "l would say that my
character Devika is quite a bit like me. Devika is bold,
hot and very confident. That's me in real life," she says
laughing, "but towards the end, I turn a bit ugly, and then
that's not me in real life".
"l had a blast playing this character as the nuances of the
role came naturally to me. As the character was close to
me in real life, I didn't really have to put in much effort".

IMAGI ALARTS
SASHA is Devika's ambitious mother. A beautiful,
wealthy woman, with no qualms about doing anything
to ensure that her daughter wins as many pageant titles
as possible.
The role of Sasha was a perfect fit for Sunila
Karambelekar. Says Sunila, "even the name Sasha fit
the character perfectly. Sasha must be the acronym for
Sexy, Ambitious, Sweet and Sour, Hilarious and Arrogant.
Sasha is blessed with a great body and knows how to
use it for her own interests. She finds herself in situations
in which she cleverly converts into opportunistic steps of
climbing up the ladder of success".
"Working on "The Genius of Beauty" was great fun. The
producers and director knew exactly what they needed
and I felt extremely comfortable, and comforted in
that knowledge. I am sure that the audience will enjoy
watching the movie just as much as we enjoyed creating
this fun comedy, it's a laugh a minute!"
Director Aarin was just as emanate about Sunila. "As
Sasha, the quintessential seductress who gets what she
wants no matter what the cost, Sunila manage to embody
all the negative side of the character, without coming across
as dislikeable. Sunila a well known regional film actress
provided the character with the much needed body, mind
and soul. With her trademark catty eyes and husky voice,
she added the much needed sexual tones to the film."

ABOUT THE CAST
WILLIAM D. GENTRY (Fhe Doc) is a talent you simply
should look out for. Playing the lead role and acting for the
very first time, it's something you should watch to believe.
His comedic influences may be varied, being an avid fan
of movies of all genre, but Bill Gentry in his first acting
role is hilarious, believable and definitely has the makings
of a great comedic actor.
Bill is currently based in Singapore with his wife and two
children, and ferries between here and the rest of the
world for work for "his real grown-up job".
ROBERT JENKIN (lheodore) is not new to acting. Born

to the hilt. As an actor, she can transform herself from a
bubbly young teenager with not a care in the world although
hounded and grounded by her mother, to a mature young
lady who has discovered her calling in life. You will see a
rather interesting contrast in the 2 shades of her character."

MUSIC:
Composers Ravi Vedant and Bill Gentry were tasked to score
the entire film project with original creations.
The key to the score was the ability to complement not just
the comedic action of the film but the more touching moments
as well. Ravi and Bill worked together to create connections
within the films more emotional aspects to showcase the
comedic world of the Doc.
The composing duo have worked together for years. "Both Bill
and I have a common passion — music," says Ravi, "working
together on this soundtrack was really enjoyable".
India-born composer RAVI VEDANT (Composer/ProduceN
By) has a list of film credits that exemplifies his ability to
transcend genre. A well-recognized name in the audio
industry, his versatile talent can be heard in animated films,
comedies, action films and drama, scoring for numerous
TV channels, short films and feature films. His works
include "The Big Parade", "Lonesome", "Machiste in Hell"
and "Nana", which were films featured at the 100 years of
cinema in the International Film Festival in Mumbai in 1995.
He also scored and performed for the French film "Un
Chapeau De Paille d'ltalie" (The Italian Strawhat), directed
by renowned director Rene Clair.
RaviS ability to compose in a variety of genres stems from
his early musical interests. Having been fascinated with
percussion since his childhood, Ravi studied Engineering, and
after graduating, he took the bold step of following his dreams
and becoming a drummer. He performed with various pop,
rock and jazz bands across India and abroad. Experimenting
with every possible style of music, Ravi was also responsible
for introducing electronic music with then-revolutionary
technology like MIDI to Pune, the educational hub of India.
Ravi's foray into professional composing came soon
thereafter, when he ventured into starting Pune's first state-
of-the-art audio recording studio, Studio Music Byte. There,
he composed, arranged, performed, recorded and mixed
numerous local and international albums.
In the past few years, he has made Singapore his home, and
lends his expertise as the Chairman of the Audio Engineering
